I passed NSE 4 and NSE 5 and became a Fortinet Certified Professional – Network Security.
This note is not to flex.
It’s here because when I started, most guides were either:
So this is the real path I took, what I studied, how I studied, and what actually matters if you want to pass.
Before we start:
These are not memorization exams.
If you try to memorize without understanding, you’ll suffer.
I only relied on two things:
This is your primary source. Don’t underestimate it.
If it’s mentioned in the official material, assume it’s exam-relevant.
This is where things click.
I used the Student Guide to:
I didn’t rush it.
If a chapter felt weak → I stopped and fixed it.
This is where most people fail.
If I couldn’t explain a feature out loud, I wasn’t done.
If you’re weak here, don’t move forward.
You must be comfortable with:
Not just “what button to click”, but what happens internally.
NSE 5 shifts your mindset.
You move from:
“How do I configure this device?”
to:
“How do I manage, analyze, and scale security?”
Focus heavily on:
You’re expected to think operationally.
If you understand concepts, you’ll spot the correct answer immediately.
Passing these exams is not luck.
It’s discipline + understanding.
NSE 4 & NSE 5 are not “entry-level checkbox certs”.
They build a real networking + security mindset.
If you take them seriously, they’ll level you up, not just your CV.
This note exists so you don’t waste time the way many people do.
Work smart.
